Hey there, folks! I'm B, and I'm excited to take you on a journey through my experiences as a teacher and youth worker. In this article, I shre with you the twists and turns that have shaped my path and led me to where I am today.

Experience and Inspiration

My journey into the world of teaching began in 2019 after completing my teacher training. Soon after, my foray into youth work kicked off in the summer of '22. The catalyst for my shift towards youth work was a deep-seated desire to dedicate more of my time and energy to improving the lives of LGBT+ young people. Balancing teaching and youth work has been a fulfilling endeavor, allowing me to pursue my passion for education while advocating for this marginalised community.

Teaching and Mentorship: A Personal Perspective

Teaching has always held a special place in my heart. My fascination with the transformative power of education was sparked during my time as a learning support teaching assistant for a young girl with cerebral palsy in a London special school. It was during this experience that I realised my calling—to be the person at the front of the classroom, sharing knowledge and shaping young minds.

Memorable Moments and Growth

Reflecting on my journey, countless memorable moments stand out. One of the most profound aspects of my early teaching career was the opportunity to learn about myself. As I navigated my first year of teaching, I uncovered personal experiences that left both positive and negative marks on my journey. Working with children and young people provided me with invaluable insights and spurred significant personal growth—a journey of self-discovery I hadn't anticipated.

Teaching Style and Values

My approach to teaching and youth work centers around authenticity, transparency, and accountability. Over the years, I've experimented with various teaching personas, from strict disciplinarian to comedic mentor. Today, I strive to be genuine, fair, and accountable—traits I believe foster meaningful connections and empower young people to take ownership of their learning.

Passions and Specializations

Two areas close to my heart are LGBT+ advocacy and music. Drawing from my personal experiences, I'm passionate about creating safe and inclusive spaces for LGBT+ young people. Similarly, my background in classical guitar performance fuels my love for teaching music—a pleasure that comes naturally and brings me immense joy.
